The aim of the Portfolio Skills day is to consolidate the knowledge based learning and development that is available on the E-learning site.

The course will start promptly with registration between 08:30hrs and 09:00hrs. Tea and Coffee will be available throughout the day. Lunch is not provided on the course and you should make arrangements to bring lunch with you.

The skills day consists of a period of skills checks and consolidation. We will then move on to some short scenario based training and development for the remainder of the morning and into the early afternoon.

As the afternoon progresses the move to simulation with more extended debriefing time built in. This is to support the setting of new mental models that often underpin practical skills.

Please can you ensure that you bring warm, waterproof outdoor clothing and suitable footwear with you to the course as you may be required to do some simulations outdoors.

As part of a continuous development process BASICS Scotland is considering trialling the use of Trauma and Cardiac Skills days as a formally recognised re-qualification/refresher. As part of this process, the BIGCAT assessment tool, which will be familiar to all from the PHEC course, may be employed to provide both trainers and participants with a tried and tested process that enables assessment and feedback to support re-qualification/refresher.
