Successful day for BASICS Scotland Responders App Launch

Originally posted: 20/04/2015

The BASICS Scotland Responders App was officially launched on Friday 17th April 2015 and was a great success.

Mr. John Swinney – Deputy First Minister was kind enough to come along and press the button to launch the app for us.

The day started with an introduction from Dr. Colville Laird (Medical Director of BASICS Scotland) followed by demonstrations. The demonstrations included:

  • How our HAL manikin is used for simulations during training
  • Remote Skills training pods and how they are used to provide live internet based training to remote and rural medical practitioners
  • Soon to be revealed custom built Cricothyroidotomy Trainer
  • EZ-IO and the benefits
  • An extrication demonstration from our own customised training car

After the demonstrations, everyone returned to the boardroom where Mr. John Swinney launched the app and everyone who had pre-registered and installed the app ready for the launch were automatically sent a notification and were given full access.

The event was attended by a small group of attendees who included Mr. Jim Ward (Medical Director, Scottish Ambulance Service), Mr. David Garbutt (Chair, Scottish Ambulance Service), Caroline Lamb (Chief Executive, NES), Mike Sabin (NES), Aly & Penny Dickson (The Sandpiper Trust).

We would like to thank everyone who attended for coming along and making the day such a success and being beyond our own expectations.

Thank you also to Dave Bywater, Kevin McCloskey, Ben Price, Stuart Swanson and Fiona Mair for attending as BASICS Responders and helping out with the demonstrations.

And a big thank you to Simon Howie who kindly donated the wonderful food for the event.
