BASICS Scotland’s first ever chairman passes away

Peter JoinerIt is with deep sadness that BASICS Scotland announces the death of Dr Peter Joiner on Thursday, June 1, 2017 in the Town and County Hospital, Wick.

After a career in the RAF Peter became a GP in Lybster. Peter was a long-time member of BASICS and along with Dr John McDonald was responsible for negotiating the formation of BASICS Scotland. He was the first chairman of BASICS Scotland, one of the first people to sit the Diploma in Immediate Medical Care of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and he subsequently converted this to The Fellowship in Immediate Medical Care. A few years later he was appointed an examiner for the Diploma in Immediate Medical Care.

BASICS Scotland is deeply appreciative of all the work that he undertook on behalf of BASICS Scotland and immediate medical care. Always a lively, enthusiastic and upbeat character he will be sadly missed.
