The Remote Skills Course is a relatively new offering from BASICS Scotland. Following its launch, this quite revolutionary course is proving its success and growing fast in popularity.

An innovative solution for remote practitioners; our Remote Skills Training courses enable candidates to connect simultaneously from multiple sites and gain valuable hands-on skills training in pre-hospital emergencies from the comfort of their own home/workplace.

We are continually investigating and investing in technology which will enrich the learning experience and make our courses more accessible to remote and rural areas. Following request from medical practitioners in remote and rural areas of Scotland needing to refresh skills that they haven’t used for some time, we developed the Remote Skills Training Course.

This course allows these medical practitioners direct access to the training without having to leave the comfort of their own home or workplace, negating them having to take time off to attend courses which for some can be in locations that take days just to travel to and from.

Remote Skills Training Pods

The Equipment

We have invested in professional broadcasting equipment and set up our own studio allowing us to connect with individuals and small groups in Scotland and even World wide.

Another part of our investment, thanks to funding by NES (NHS Education Scotland) and The Sandpiper Trust, we have been able to create what we call Training Pods which contain all the necessary equipment needed to participate in one of our courses. Contents of the training pods include:

Training Manikins
EZ-IO kits
Everything you need for Airway Management
Collars
Chest Drain Kits
Sam Sling

And Much More!

The Pods also contain HD web cams ensuring the highest quality is maintained throughout the course.

We manage the shipping of these Pods to and from your location and allow time for you to familiarise yourself with the equipment before the course and time to practice after the live sessions have been completed. Technical and administrative support is also provided throughout the course so you can have peace of mind and are able to concentrate on the skills being taught.

Remote Skills

How you connect

The Remote Skills Course is carried out entirely via Adobe Connect. Similar to the way Skype works, Adobe Connect is a web based conferencing system that allows us to provide a high quality video and voice connection over the internet.

All you require to take part in this course is access to a minimum 1mb broadband connection and a computer that has an up to date web browser with the latest Adobe Flash player installed.

This means:

No specialised video conference equipment needed
No fixed location
Attend course from comfort of your own home or workplace

Using this method allows us to provide remote training to anyone, anywhere!

Key course benefits

– No travel/accommodation costs.

– Ability to take part in the course from anywhere with access to a computer and the Internet (minimum 1MB broadband recommended).

– We supply you with a high definition web-cam and provide IT support before and throughout the course.
