Presents:

Hypothermia in Japan: Perspective from Sub-tropical Climate

Synopsis:

You might imagine extreme weather conditions or mountains in winter when it comes to hypothermia. Actually, most of the hypothermic events take place in common indoor situations. Home is not a warm place for certain populations, such as people with socioeconomic vulnerability.  The common causes of hypothermia are sepsis, drug/alcohol and endocrine disease. Therefore, investigation for these entities is essential when we encounter the persons suffering from hypothermia. How could we avoid hypothermic deaths? Several prognostication systems have been developed. Among them, we propose a simpler scoring system potentially leading to faster decision-making and disposition in real practices. Of course, we need to acknowledge the variations of hypothermia in different climates and cultures.
